I love to find some good free iPhone apps [1] . I’ve found some really good games that are among the best free apps out there. Of course, you have to sift through a lot of really bad games to find a gem here or there.
Slime Vs. Mushroom is, unfortunately, one of the bad ones you have to sift through while trying to find that gem. Let me explain.
Slime Vs. Mushroom is a Plants Vs. Zombies copy that is kind of the same, only not as good. The biggest difference I can find? The price. Plants Vs. Zombies will set you back 3 bucks I think, while right now Slime Vs. Mushroom is free. While I can appreciate free, you know what they say… you get what you pay for, and in this case truer words have never been spoken.
If you’ve played Plants Vs. Zombies, you know that it’s a creative game that offers cute (yes, even with the zombies) graphics, awesome sound effects, and smooth gameplay. These combined with an original idea make for a great game that is addicting and fun.
So it’s not just the idea behind it that makes it such an awesome game, it’s everything. When you take that same idea (which is no longer original) and add to it bad graphics, bad sound effects and choppy, slow moving gameplay, it’s just not the same. But apparently many people make their decisions based on price, which must be why people are playing this.
Like I said, the game play is pretty similar, with the slime being the plants, and the mushrooms being the zombies (I would think it would make more sense the other way around, but I guess not). You put different types of blobs of goo on the grid and wait for the mushrooms to come attack. There are different types of mushrooms and different types of slime, so it’s up to you to choose the right ones for the right purpose.
While this is an okay alternative to Plants Vs Zombies, it really doesn’t compare. Plants Vs. Zombies is simply put, a better game that is more polished, and just more fun. If you absolutely can’t spend the few bucks, this may satisfy you, but you really don’t know what you’re missing.
My recommendation? Spend the few bucks to get the real thing, as this imposter just doesn’t compare to the real thing.
