Finland Wins the Largest Open nation-to-nation Golf Tournament -- ESPOO, Finland, August 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

ESPOO, Finland, August 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

GameBook [1] today announced that Finland won the GameBook Cup [2] , the largest nation-to-nation (Sweden v Finland) open golf tournament in the world made possible by innovative GameBook technology bringing golf to the digital age. The countries competed head-to-head in seven different categories, of which Finland won 4, Sweden won 2, and one was tied. The total number of rounds played and counted for the final result was approximately 3,000 - We're pleased that so many golfers showed up and played for their country. GameBook wants to offer golfers something new, innovative and fun in golf! says GameBook co-founder and CEO Kalle Väinölä.

Finland won the categories for the country that makes more birdies, eagles, fairway hits, and net results below 70.  The countries were tied in the category for the country that hits more greens. Sweden won the categories for the country that makes fewer putts and that makes less triple bogies (or worse).  - We included several categories that are based on individual statistics. I believe golfers can learn more about their own game once they start following their individual statistics. GameBook makes it easy to follow your stats and compare them to your friends' stats, continues Väinölä.

-  I feel good that my home country Finland won, but in all fairness to the Swedes, the results show that Swedes are better putters than Finns, says co-founder Mikko Manerus. Anyone in Sweden and Finland could participate in the GameBook Cup by playing one or more rounds on any golf course.  - All that you had to do is to play golf and keep score with the GameBook iPhone app or enter your individual score manually after the round in the GameBook online Clubhouse profile, explains Manerus.

The GameBook Cup was sponsored by Audi Finland, Continental Tire Finland, Dormy, Nike Golf, Ilta-Sanomat, Exove, allstar.fi, and Black Mountain Golf Club of Hua Hin. Dormy and Nike Golf offer free downloads of the iPhone application in Sweden.  Audi Finland does the same in Finland. Their ads run in the application and in Finland alone, the leaderboard ad has received over 500,000 views this Summer.
