FBI offers free missing child iPhone application - CBS 21 News

When a child goes missing, minutes can feel like hours. But it is often in those first few moments that what a parent does matters most.

And now the Federal Bureau of Investigation is helping parents to save valuable time. The FBI has introduced a new, free iPhone application called FBI Child ID. It is the first mobile app created by the FBI, and it provides a convenient place to electronically store photos and vital information about your children so that it is literally right at hand if you need it.

The app allows you to take a photograph of your child, and list all of the key physical identifiers such as height and weight, and then provide that information to security or police officers on the spot. You can also email that information directly to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as well as local police departments so they can help in the search for your child.

Currently, the app is only available for the iPhone, but it will soon be offered for other smart phone devices, according to the FBI.
