Looking for Free Apps? Go to GetJar

"Did you hear about the cool app that points out the constellations in the night sky?"

"Which app do you use for real-time traffic?"

This was the conversation at a recent lunch, and one that is probably repeated again and again around water coolers and lunches and other gatherings on a regular basis. Apps are fun and everyone wants to know about the latest and greatest.

One site that recently caught my attention is GetJar [1] . Created in 2004, the site was originally intended for developers to get and share feedback on mobile applications they had created. It has grown to become the world's largest cross-platform (spans iPhone and Android markets) of "appsolutely" free downloadable apps. With more than 70,000 apps available, and hundreds more added every week, GetJar is sure to have something for everyone and everything.

At the GetJar site, users enter the make and model of their device. This allows only the right application to be offered. Over 2100 mobile phones are on the list of supported devices.

I'm planning to check out a few of these frequently downloaded apps from GetJar for my phone:

Be warned, there is an adult category and some of the top apps do feature adult photos. This is a site you would want to closely monitor if your kids want to take advantage of some of the free games and other applications.

In the meantime, I'm still searching for the app that will make dinner and then do the dishes.

I'll keep you posted.
