Along with a slew of other features , Apple has today announced that Touch ID will now be accessible by developers for use in third-party applications. Previously, only Apple-made apps could access this feature, but many apps such as mint.com were demoed taking advantage of this quick-authentication hardware.
Also worth noting is that, with this announcement, we can expect that future iOS devices will have Touch ID by default. Rumors have been spread for a very long time suggesting that future iPad models will have a Touch ID sensor, and that seems all the more likely knowing that third-party applications will now be incorporating the feature on a more widespread basis.
