One Directionâs Liam Payne
In the post, Payne apologised for things going a âlittle sideways,â but said they were bound to âfall shortâ sometimes.
The 20 year-oldâs comments are the first time anyone from the band has spoken about the video that was released last week.
He said all of the boys had âa lot of growing up to do,â but said they were âonly in their 20sâ and would do âstupid things at this age.â
The five-minute video shows footage of Tomlinson and Malik sharing a joint while travelling in Peru.
Tomlinson narrates as a joint is passed between the boys, saying: âSo, here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days.â
He then turns the camera toward the smoking Malik and says: âThatâs just Zayn warming up before the show.â
Adding:Â âOne very, very important factor to Zaynâs warm-up, of course, is Mary J herself.â
The footage is thought to have been stolen from the band, before it was leaked to the Daily Mail
The comments from Payne were provoked by an article written by Daily Mail writer Jan Moir.
In the article, Moir questions the bands musicianship and claims the One Direction boys âlike so many before them, take fame for granted.â
In response, Payne wrote: âI think youâll find Iâve written a lot of the next album and songs on the last I play piano and Niall plays guitar that ok?â
He then mimics Moir by writing: âlike so many writers before, consistently get things wrong looking down there (sic) noses thinking they are so right.â
He ends the lengthy apology by saying: âHopefully we stand the test of time and get it right in the end,â adding âI donât take this for granted and im (sic) extremely grateful to be here doing this.â
