IK Multimedia, a maker of music apps and peripherals for Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, just released a new product that allows your iOS-device to connect directly to an electric keyboard to create high-quality digital tunes.
The iRig MIDI is an adaptor that connects your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to a “midi-enabled” keyboard, such as those made by Casio, Akai, Denon, M-Audio and others.
The MIDI comes with a free SampleTank app, which acts as a 4-part multi-timbral instrument with a sound of more than 1 GB of samples for 500-plus acoustic, electric and electronic instruments. The company says the app also includes 20 studio-quality insert effects that can be applied to any individual instrument. The cost of the MIDI is $69.95.
If you really want studio quality anything, you probably have to dole out the cash to rent a real one. But this could be the next best thing.
IK-Multimedia, which has its U-S. headquarters in Sunrise, also offers a similar product called the Amplitude iRig which connects iOS devices to an electric guitar or bass adapter for $39.95.
