Dubsmash Free App – The Best Video Messaging App for Android and iPhone

This is an app that allows Apple and Android phone users to add sound tracks to those videos they record on their phones.

For most people who have done this, it is all about matching a song they perform or a film scene with audio from the original. To upload sounds, there are two options which the user can explore. First, one can upload the sounds themselves. Secondly, the user may simply select the sounds from those clips that have been uploaded by other users.

These clips can be uploaded from sources such as popular TV shows, chart hits, musicals and operas. Cult movies such as Blackadder, South Park, Austin Powers, Superbad and Saturday Night Live are also good sources for one to upload clips.

It is after choosing an audio clip that the user will try to blend it with their own video. They can then share it through WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram or just send it to their friends and relatives in the form of text messages.

The Dubsmash app was invented by three developers of German origin Jonas Druppel, Roland Grenke and Daniel Taschik. The app is hardly one year into its existence, but to the surprise of many, it has already caught the fancy of more than 50 million people. It is very simple to use. The simplicity on its usage is what has attracted so many people, especially kids to love the app. In fact, BBC reports indicate that a large number of Dubsmash videos on Instagram have been posted by children.

Vey many celebrities are also using the app. To start with, Lewis Hamilton (the Formula One driver) has posted a clip recently, trying to impersonate Christ Tucker in Rush Hour 2. Hugh Jackman (the Australian actor) has also attempted to behave like Allan Rickman in Die Hard. As if that is not enough, other celebrities have also joined in the mix. These include personalities such as Jennifer Lopez, Demi Moore and Witherspoon. Even the celebrities in India have not been left behind, as narrated by the Times of India.

Is Dubsmash App Legal?

There have been debates as regards to the legality or illegality of the Dubsmash app. The issue has proved to be very dicey. Wilde Beuger Solmecker, an intellectual property lawyer, argues that the question of legality of the app narrows down to the size of audience that is in question. It will be very okay to send audio clips that have been copyrighted in private messages to friends. However, things will change should you decide to post the videos on public forums such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. This only shows that none of the clips should be able to reach the public domain, no matter how funny they may appear.

One is therefore likely to face prosecution for using copyrighted clips. It is very much advised that you use those sounds that are not copyrighted.

What about Dubsmash 2?

Dubsmash 2 is not in any way related to Dubsmash. It is in fact a malware app that is hidden in some phones and will always take the users to porn sites. The difference between Dubsmash and Dubsmash 2 is so small that it takes a keen eye to make a distinction. The only visible difference between the two is the fact that Dubsmash 2 has IS settings while Dubsmash has just settings. Unlike other malwares, the only harm Dubsmash 2 causes is to push the users to adult sites. However, this still does not justify its existence.
