While iTunes Radio was originally introduced as a music streaming service, Apple has added a new NPR channel to the service thatâll stream news all throughout the day.
NPR announced this news in a post [1] , where it boasts that it is the first news provider on iTunes Radio:
As we say at NPR: radio isnât going away, itâs going everywhere. Today weâre excited to share the news that NPR has become the first news provider on iTunes Radio. Our 24-hour stream includes national newscasts, stories from Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and other news and cultural programming.
And what you hear today is just the start of whatâs to come. In the future, digital streams from NPR Member Stations across the country will begin appearing on iTunes Radio.
To listen to the new NPR news station, you can visit itunesradio.com/npr [2]  and click on the âListen in iTunesâ button. The station, titled âNPR News and Cultureâ will be added to your âMy Stationsâ list, just like other stations.
NPRâs radio stations have been available to listeners for free via their website and iOS apps, but being a part of iTunes Radio gives it additional visibility. Apple adding more news stations to iTunes Radio could make the serviceâs addressable audience much wider, by including not only music lovers, but even people who want to listen to news.
In just a few months since its introduction, iTunes Radio has quickly become the third-most popular music streaming service in the US . To further increase the visibility of the service, Apple plans on making iTunes Radio a standalone app in iOS 8 , as opposed to it currently being a part of the Music app. Reports also say that an Android version of iTunes Radio could be on its way.
