App Brings Old Pictures Resting in a Shoebox into the Digital Age

Ladies and gentlemen, the time is now... to break out those old-school photos and show everyone the rockstar you were back in the day.

1000memories [1] just launched a free iPhone app called Shoebox [2] that turns your smartphone into a photo scanner, making it easy to digitize your prints and share them with friends and family.

You may be thinking, who needs an app for that? I can just take a picture of an old shot with my smart phone. But it goes further.

Not only can it detect the edges of a picture, Shoebox includes buttons that let you quickly crop, straighten and rotate photos, as well as record the stories behind them by adding captions, dates and tags.

When you're done, you can save and organize them on the 1000memories website, e-mail the pics and/or post them on Facebook and Twitter. Let your friends chuckle at your less-than-stunning days and maybe embarrass them a little, too.

The app [3] is compatible with all iPhone models, though the iPhone 4S will produce the best images. Shoebox will soon be available on Android and other mobile platforms.
