Smartphone app helping employees increase the size of their paychecks

The American Payroll Association has developed a new smartphone app that helps workers calculate the proper amount of withholdings from their checks.

The American Payroll Association released a new Paycheck Maximizer application for the smartphone that could result in fatter paychecks for workers throughout the year.

Paycheck Maximizer is designed to help workers properly fill out a Form W-4 to better match the taxes withheld from each paycheck to cover their actual tax liability. Last year, the average tax refund was over $3,000, an overpayment of more than $250 a month in taxes.

“We wanted this app to help Americans where they need it most — their paycheck,” says Dan Maddux, executive director of the APA. “A quick adjustment to an employee’s Form W-4 can reduce how much tax is taken from his or her pay, giving a boost on the next paycheck and beyond.”

The app is free for download for iPhone and Android smartphone by visiting www.mypaycheck.org [1] .

The American Payroll Association provides payroll education, produces publications and conducts training. The group is based in San Antonio.
