Pioneer launches DDJ-WEGO2, cool DJ mixing console for iPhone and iPad

Pioneer DDJ-WeGO2 DJ controller

The App Store offers some of the finest apps for DJing on any mobile platform and makers of specialized accessories have taken notice and been adding support for Apple’s iPhone, iPod and iPad devices. Take Pioneer, for example, and its brand new DJ controller for iOS devices that got announced [1]  today.

The DDJ-WEGO2 console is very cool: it’s portable (has handles), compatible with your fav apps, and appeases to aspiring DJs by providing all the hardware mixing sliders plus the Jog FX/Pulse control and lets you access and mix tracks on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices… [2]

Another major selling point: the mixing console comes bundled with Atomix Productions’s Virtual DJ Limited Edition software for Windows and Mac.

Of course, the DDJ-WEGO2 is fully compatible with popular apps for DJs, including Algoriddim’s djay and the recently-released $9.99 djay 2 iOS app  (check out Lorry’s in-depth review ).

And because it’s USB-powered, there’s no need for an external power supply.

Here’s a nice promo video.

The controller features multi-color LED backlighting for the Jog wheel and a color-customizable user interface for the included software.

It’s also nice that Pioneer is including a Lightning cable.

Features include:

• Included iPhone / iPad / iPod touch cable with Lightning connector enables quick connection of the unit to an iPhone 5 or iPad
• “djay 2” application provides instantaneous access and playback of music stored in compatible iOS devices
• Jog FX allows users to combine multiple effects and control them simultaneously using the Jog wheel
• Pulse Control provides users with visual prompts with a variety of colored lights on the Jog platters
• Plug & Play with bundled Virtual DJ LE software and Algoriddim djay LE software (free download)
• Multi-purpose Grip for transporting the unit as well as functioning as a stand for a connected iPhone/iPad/iPod touch device.
• Multi-colored LEDs for customization of lights to match the user’s style
• USB powered with built-in soundcard
• Built-in audio ports for high quality sound input and output.
• Built-in sound card for expanded music storage and portability.
• Compact (14.9” x 8.2” x 2.5”) and weighs less than four pounds (without stand) for easy transportation.

The console is available in black, white and red, matching the popular line of HDJ-500 DJ headphones, and will be available in October, priced at $429.
