The once rogue P2P app Kazaa has gone full circle and launched a mobile app for iPhone and and iPad for streaming music. It's free at Apple's App Store, but after a seven day trial period, you'll need to sign up for a subscription.
You might remember Kazaa from its former life as a P2P downloading software, created by the two guys who brought you Skype, Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis. They eventually sold out to Sharman Networks, who settled with the RIAA and IFPI. But P2P is so old ... it's your father's killer app. Streaming is so *of the moment* that it's no surprise that Kazaa wants to cash in.
The new Kazaa app is available as both an iPad app and iPhone app, and comes with some of the requisite streaming music features -- streaming radio, downloads for offline playback, playlists, individual album or song playback, and automatic sync between multiple devices. A Kazaa subscription will run you $10 a month, but their music library has only "millions of songs," leaving it far behind streaming music leaders like Spotify, MOG and Rdio. Kazaa hopes to add millions of more songs in the future.
