Open Championship 2011 iOS Golf App: iPhone, iPad & iPod touch : Online Social Media

Golfing enthusiasts from around the world will be united this coming week with the Open Championship 2011 tournament, this time taking place at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club, Sandwich, England. The action begins in earnest on Thursday July 14 and will conclude on Sunday July 17 and we have news of the Open Championship 2011 app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch so you won’t have to miss a thing.

Tee times are now up for Thursday and current US Open champion Rory McIlroy will begin his first round at 9:09 am local time alongside Ernie Els and Rickie Fowler. If you can’t be at golf’s oldest major event or sat in front of the TV to follow all the action the Open Championship 2011 app is all you’ll need and best of all it’s free. This official app is available at the iTunes store here [1] and will bring you all the news from Royal St. George’s and has been redesigned for this year’s tournament.

Compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and requiring iOS 3.1.3 or later this app will bring you just about everything you need to know about the Open Championship including live weather conditions, live leaderboard, course guide, video on demand, stats and everything you’ll want to know about the players. There’s also a special feature for holes 14, 15 and 16 with “LiveCast” showing live video streaming of the action. One note here is that the LiveCast feature will not be available for US users of the app. If you’re in the US though you can still access live streaming at the official open golf website (linked to below).

Radio Open Golf is available to all users of the app though and is broadcast live from Royal St. George’s in Sandwich and for a free app this pretty much has it all. Meanwhile if you want to find out more about the Open Championship then check out the official website here [2] . Tee times are now available for both Thursday’s first round and the second round on Friday along with news features such as ‘Five to follow’ and the complete field of players. There are also videos available to view of past Open Championships and golden moments to get you in the mood.

On the home page at the moment you can find out all about the Claret Jug and there’s also a countdown ticking away until the first round. Will you be following all the action from Sandwich in the U.K. and if so will you check out the app to keep up with the latest? Let us know with your comments.
