GIF for Messenger

Third party app developers are allowed to create applications that can integrate with Facebook’s Messenger app and GIF is one of the best ones. It will offer you a bunch of animated gifs that you can insert into your messages and they are related to music, reactions, trending etc.

Santander Cycles

Free iPhone And iPad Apps You Wouldn’t Want To Miss This August

The month of August is coming to a close and iOS users will be looking to load their phones with the best free apps from August. Therefore, we here at Tech News Today have compiled a short list of apps you have to try out. So here is a roundup of the latest iOS apps you should look into. Most of these apps are free with in-app purchases so have look and load your iPhone and iPad with the latest iOS apps.

Microsoft Translator (Free, iPhone)

When in need of translation, most of us turn to Google Translate on instinct. But this new app by Microsoft seems like a convenient alternative. Designed to quickly search for a translation of the phrase you require, the app also displays it on the iPhone and Apple watch screens. So if you’re ever abroad and can’t find the words to convey your thoughts or the correct pronunciation, you can just show people what you’re trying to say.

Inbox Vudu (Free, iPhone/iPad)

The AI powered app is designed to rescue you from email overload. The app is designed to efficiently organize your emails and prioritize them according to the ones that require immediate action and ones which can wait.

The app is designed to respond based on the user’s habits. Use this app to stay on top of the many emails that are sitting in your inbox.

Find Your VS Shade (Free, iPad)

The Vidal Sassoon app is designed to allow users to experiment with different hair colors. The app allows you to take a selfie, trace the outline of your hair on the selfie and experiment with new hair colors. The ultimate goal here seems to be persuading users to buy certain products. However, it is a fun app if you want to find out whether you should go for a drastic change of color or a subtle change.

Story Wars (Free, iPhone)

This app will be thoroughly enjoyed by people who have a flare for writing. A collaborative fiction app which allows users to compete amongst themselves, here’s how it goes; one person kicks tings off with a chapter while other users write the next chapter. The next chapter gains approval through votes, and once it is finalized, the next round of drafts for the new chapter start coming in.

It is a fun app for users with vivid imaginations, especially those who love writing.

Genee (Free, iPhone)

Genee is another AI based assistant to help you out with your diary. The service is designed to schedule automated meetings based on when the user and his contacts are free to meet for lunch or to sit down for a chat. The best part about Genee is that it marks the meeting in your calendar and also that of your friends.

WildCard (Free, iPhone)

The daily news and entertainment app is designed to offer users a quick glimpse of news and other stuff which might interest you. The best thing about Wildcard is that it breaks down news into tiny understandable pieces prefect for reading on your phone.

The app has a lot of interesting content from across the web into a feed which is updated continuously.

Sage Solitaire: Download this free iPhone game today

What if I told you that solitaire needed a reboot? You’d probably call me crazy, but then I’d know that you hadn’t given Sage Solitaire a chance yet. Sage Solitaire is the latest game from legendary iOS game designer Zach Gage, whom you might know from SpellTower, one of the best word games to ever appear on mobile devices.

And did I mention it’s free? Because Sage Solitaire is free.

SEE ALSO:  Everything we expect to see at Apple’s big iPhone 6s event

Here’s how this remixed version of solitaire works:

  • In Single Deck mode, you’re dealt nine stacks of cards, constituting an entire deck.
  • Your goal is to clear those cards by making hands: pairs, straights, flushes â€" basically everything you know from poker.
  • The catch is that you have to use cards from at least two different rows to make a hand.
  • If you can’t make a hand, you can trash a card â€" the card below it will then spring to the top of the pile.
  • Once you run out of moves, the game ends and you’re awarded a score.

It’s simple, it plays quick and you probably won’t be able to put your iPhone  down for the first hour after you download it. Plus, if you really find yourself enjoying it, you can pay $2.99 to unlock the full game, which includes Double Deck mode and Fifteens mode, as well as wallpapers, card backs, stat tracking and leaderboards.

Before you leave your home this weekend, download Sage Solitaire. It’s worth the megabytes.

Companion app may help you feel safe

GD7Ax2Qr_6uv1lI_owY82vY3tjj5825b7oFKuGrO758CompanionCan an app make you safer?Companion [1]  is a free iPhone and Android app that's primarily geared toward college students who feel uneasy walking home alone.

But Companion doesn't want to be just for students. If it catches on, the app has the ability to make entire neighborhoods safer.

Here's how it works: you pick someone from your contacts to be your "companion" in the app. As you walk to your destination, the companion can see where you are on a map â€" a link to a webpage with the map is sent to them in a text message, so people who don't have the app can still be your companions.

But the app does more. You can quickly report if you feel nervous along your route for any reason. Maybe there aren't many people around, or there's an intimidating stranger or scary activity nearby.

Your companion will see that you are feeling nervous and he or she can quickly contact you. Like the navigation app Waze [2] , which lets you keep track of where police or accidents are on the road to warn other drivers, your feedback is recorded by the app. Companion's goal is to provide helpful data that can be used for local law enforcement to focus on areas that need more police attention.CompanionCompanionCompanion taps into your iPhone's sensors in case you find yourself in real danger. The app can detect when your trip's ETA starts getting longer than it should be, or if you suddenly start going the wrong way on the map. It can also see if you start running with your iPhone or if you get pushed over. Another trigger the app recognizes is if your headphones get yanked out.

Eventually, an Apple Watch app for Companion will be able to detect spikes in your heartbeat â€" another good indication that something is out of the ordinary.

All of these examples don't necessarily mean you're in trouble, and that's why the app gives you 15 seconds to say you're OK before it alerts any companions and the authorities.

Companion is gaining momentum on college campuses, Danny Freed, the app's co-founder, tells Tech Insider. “We’ve seen that people have the app open, or they’re using it during a trip, and they have peace of mind," he says.

Companion was first piloted at the University of Michigan last semester, and the company works with local law enforcement to provide data about where people are feeling nervous around the surrounding Ann Arbor area.

The app is less than a year old, and it was recently updated in the App Store [3] with a big redesign. Along with the redesign, the company will do a marketing push at 14 more campuses around the country, including Indiana University, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, and Syracuse, for this fall semester.

The 9-person team working on Companion is made up entirely of current and former University of Michigan students. Freed says the idea for it grew out of the crime alerts that he and his friends would frequently get. They also noticed that that few people used the emergency blue light stations around campus.

At first, the app only let Freed and his friends monitor each other, but they all quickly realized that it had the potential to aid local police. Companion already has at least one data point in every state where someone has felt nervous, and Freed says that public safety departments besides the University of Michigan's are showing interest in working with the app.

“It’s been painfully slow," admits Freed, referring to getting partnerships nailed down with local governments. "But our relationship with Michigan’s department of public safety is really strong and we’ve been working with them for months.”

We’ll start to get some power from the vitality of being on a college campus

Companion is currently in the phase of getting the word out on as many campuses as it can. The company is reaching out to school ambassadors, similar to what Yik Yak, the fast growing anonymous social network [4]  does, to help get the word out.

The biggest challenge for Companion is whether or not it can successfully crowd source enough data to make areas safer.

“The real growth should start to come once we have ambassadors on the ground at schools," he says. "We’ll start to get some power from the virality of being on a college campus.”

Want to be more productive, and have more fun doing your work?

Ever find that distractions, interruptions, and daydreaming make it hard to stay 100% focused on one task at a time â€" from start to finish?

As a person who experiences these problems at work, I created SPRINTS to help me focus, and I use it every day. In fact, SPRINTS was used to accelerate its own development.

SPRINTS is a one-of-a-kind productivity tool that uses a countdown timer and spoken voice reminders to keep you focused on the task at hand.

SPRINTS is for you, if:

* You would enjoy making a game of getting more done in less time.=
* You find that social media, emails, and interruptions distract you and reduce your efficiency.
* You often fall into the trap of “multitasking” â€" jumping from task to task without finishing each first.
* You like tools and productivity hacks that boost your effectiveness.

How to use SPRINTS

1. Plug in headphones, and play music that gets you in the zone. Baroque and classical music have been shown to improve focus.
2. Choose a task that would normally take you 5-30 minutes. (Break larger projects into smaller 5-30 minute tasks).
3. Set a clear objective and an even more-aggressive time limit. Could there be a way to finish this 20-minute task in 10 minutes? Strategize on paper or device (I use Evernote) and think through the steps.
4. Start your Sprint! SPRINTS will remind you about the time remaining.
5. Use the Daily High Scores for motivation. Successful Sprints award more points. Can you beat yesterday’s score?

SPRINTS Features

* Name your Sprint objective, and set the timer.
* Audio notifications remind you how much time is left, even when the SPRINTS App is closed.
* A Scoring system rewards you for successful Sprints, and provides motivation.
* SPRINTS saves your scores and results so that you can review them later.

Best Email Client For iPhone: New free app changes the way you email

If I had a dollar for every time a company emailed me with news of a “revolutionary” app or product that will “change the way” people do whatever it is this particular thing addresses, I would be retired on a beach somewhere right now. But alas, I’m sitting in my office with an inbox full of annoying PR pitches instead. Every once in a while, however, something crosses my desk that actually does deliver on the lofty claims posed by the public relations firm that emails me, and such is the case with a new free  iPhone app that was just released on Thursday.

DON’T MISS:  Does iOS have a bloatware problem?

The app in question is called Geronimo [1] , and it just launched for the iPhone and Apple Watch . The latter version is actually quite interesting because it lets you read full emails on your Watch, if that’s something you’re interested in doing. The former is where we’ll focus though, because it really does change the way you use email.

Geronimo is a time- and gesture-based email client that positions all of your emails on a horizontal timeline. The app makes it insanely easy to zip through your emails using tilt gestures, and then you can act on each message with a flick, or you can drag a message to one of four hot corners for delete, snooze, archive and tag functions.

Confused? Watch this video to see how the app works:

I have been testing Geronimo for more than a week now and I’m very impressed with it. For me personally, though, it’s not the best solution out there. I am very much an “inbox zero” advocate, and Geronimo isn’t an app that focuses on clearing your inbox as quickly and frequently as possible. Inbox zero isn’t for everyone, of course â€" in fact, most people don’t operate this way â€" so Geronimo clearly has a massive addressable market.

If you want to check it out, and I highly recommend that you do, you’ll find Geronimo’s full description below, followed by a link to download the app from Apple’s App Store. Of note, it currently only works with Gmail and Google Apps.

A modern, design-driven reinvention of email for the iPhone.

Geronimo is fast, fun, & efficient. New ways you’ll be interacting with your inbox post-Geronimo:

• HORIZONTAL TIMELINES… See your email stretched out on a timeline and focus on just the day at hand (or at that pesky last Thursday where you got 120 emails behind). No more tyranny of the single vertical list.

• INTERACTIVE MOTIONS… Unique gestures such as flicking, stacking up emails, and wrist snaps to make email faster and more interactive. Tilt your phone up & down to move through mobile emails on the go. Go even further as advanced motion features unlock over time by simply using the app.

• SEPARATE ROBOTS FROM HUMANS… Emails sent by robots (newsletters, notifications, marketing) take up a lot of inbox space and greatly contribute to our feelings of email overload. Geronimo is built in a way that allows you to shrink or hide robot emails so you can deal with real humans who you should get back to (or who might need to be hounded so they get back to you). Let’s rehumanize email and silence the robots.

• ATTACHMENTS PREVIEWS EVERYWHERE… It’s now easier than ever to check out attachments without actually opening and going through every individual email. They all show up and open lightning fast from the main timeline grid. You can also see all the attachments a friend or colleague has sent to you over time.

• ADD TEXT AND SCRIBBLES ON TOP OF PHOTOS… Annotation has now been brought to the inbox for the first time, bringing email into the modern world of fast, visual mobile communication. Marking photos up can be super efficient for work or just addictively fun.

• PICK UP EMAILS & TOSS TO YOUR FOUR ‘HOT CORNERS’… What if we weren’t limited to ‘slide to archive’ being the only interaction pattern for email? Taking a whole new view of interacting with our mobile devices, the designers and game developers at Jumpin Labs created a ‘hot corners’ interface for sorting your email. It’s fast, fun, and can be customized so the corners represent whatever folders and labels are most important to you in your life.

• REARRANGE EMAILS… With Geronimo, users can better organize their emails, arranging them in the order that they desire versus the chronological order that emails normally arrive in. This inbox curation leaves users more in control than ever.

• CLOUD FILES… Easily attach files from iCloud, Google Drive, and Dropbox

** Note: Geronimo works with gmail and google apps accounts **

Geronimo also has created the first design-driven email experience for the Apple Watch.

Geronimo’s Apple Watch experience available now with:
• beautiful visual notifications
• photos of your contacts
• reply to emails or compose from scratch
• search & find emails
• human-only notifications

47 best iPhone and iPad apps of 2015

There’s a seemingly endless amount of iPhone and iPad apps out there. So many, in fact, that it can be hard to find the ones you need amid thousands of similar apps in any category. To help you work out which ones are worth your time, we’ve scoured through the good and the bad to bring you the 48 best iPhone apps of 2015.

This article will be updated over the coming weeks and months. If you have any apps that you think deserve a place in our chart, get in touch using the comments section below or via twitter @alphronline [1] .

Facebook [2]  (free)

The number-one social network is also one of the most polished apps on iOS. Facebook is an essential download for connecting to family, friends (and frenemies).

Get this on your phone and expect to habitually crawl through posts, photos and events. Also worth checking out is Facebook Messenger, a streamlined, WhatsApp-like messaging app.

WhatsApp Messenger [3] (free for first year, 75p/yr after)

If you don’t already have this ubiquitous messenger app installed on your device, it’s time to get it. The flexibility WhatsApp offers between devices has made it the smartphone instant messenger of choice.

With the app you can send voice calls, video clips, images, audio messages and text. WhatsApp also lets you check when people have received your messages, automatically downloads pictures, and performs an umpteenth number of other useful tasks.

Twitter [4] (free)

Another must-have in the lineup of social-networking apps, Twitter is sleekly designed and a fantastic time sink.

Twitter regularly adds new features that continue to refine this already-brilliant app. The ease of scrolling up and down notifications, as well as an intuitively structured layout between timelines and trending posts, helps makes Twitter an essential download.

BBC News [5]  (free)

The BBC News app landing page lists the top stories of the moment, with a "Most Popular" tab, so you can find out which stories are trending right now, as well as a "My Topics" tab, where you can create a list of all the topics you want to follow. The topics will also appear in individual tabs along the top, if you want to catch up on the latest from one particular section. There's also a "Live" tab, where you can watch the BBC News channel live (kind of in the name, we know).

BBC iPlayer [6] (free)

BBC iPlayer is packed full of entertainment, and is a must-have on your Apple device. You can stream BBC shows live, download programmes to watch on the go, or catch up with TV on demand from the past 30 days.

Also worth getting is iPlayer Radio. Not only can you listen to all the stations owned by the BBC, you can also browse on-demand programmes and download podcasts.

Spotify [7] (free; Premium membership, £9.99/mth)

With Spotify you can either pay a monthly subscription or, if you’re happy to listen to adverts, stick to the free mode. Either way, this music-streaming app is an essential download.

There are seemingly countless artists on Spotify, as well as ways to set up playlists, mark favourite songs and shuffle tracks. If you decide to pay for the subscription, you can also listen to music offline and with higher sound quality.
